Isle of Skye, Scotland

Will be there (4 of us) for ~ 1.5 to 2 days in 1st week of June traveling in car - any recommendations for B&B accomodations, dining and viewing highlights will be most appreciated. Intend to do loop over Skye Bridge and leave via ferry to Mallaig (are ferry reservations in advance necessary?). Thanks!

Ben Tianavaig Guest House in Portree is very nice and not too expensive. View of the harbor and the village.Check the reviews on Tripadvisor. If you want a fancy splurge place for a meal The Three Chimneys is listed in A taste of Scotland and said to be great, but I haven't tried it myself as we are more the pub food types.

The Rosedale Hotel in Portree is very nice. It's right on the water with fantastic views. The people who run it are very nice and accomodating. It's a little bigger than the usual B&B so you don't get to know the owners like you do in a smaller place, but everyone at the Rosedale is nice and helpful. The breakfasts are very good, and they serve dinners, although we did not try them at our last visit.

Skye is pretty big as far as Island go, so 2-days is actually not a lot of time. Dunvegan Castle is always interesting. The Cuillins themselves are really worth seeing. If you can stop at Sligachen and walk in a bit toward the mountains you'll get a bit of a sense of their majesty. The whole walk in and up the mountain to see Loch Curuisk is a full day hike. My sister and I did it in the rain when we were young.. ; ) You would need good boots. If you go down to Elgol you can take a boat ride across to see the loch and the mountains. It's really good. If you are interested in photography, stop in at the Skye Picture House near Broadford on the main road. It's run by two professional photographers who offer photography workshops. The gallery is good. Pam

It's been a few years but we stayed at An Airidh in Portree and loved it, mainly for the gorgeous views of the loch out our window.

The Flodigarry Hotel is lovely and also has a nice restaurant. It's way out on the Trotterish Peninsula. You can stay in Flora MacDonald's cottage, which is on the property, if you wish.
