I have a home exchange offer for a lovely townhome on a canal in Haarlam for about 10 days to 2 weeks; but I'm not sure if that's an excessively long amount of time for this area. Is there enough to do/see? Could include day trips outside of the immediate area. Note: I am not a huge art museum lover AND we will be travelling with a 9 and 13 year old. Idea's for a 10 day - 2 week itinerary would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if I should accept home exchange or not.
I would do it. Haarlam is a very nice and quiet place to stay. Rent bicycles and live like the locals. There are a number of days trips in the area. And train connections are good.
I agree with Frank, I'd do it. You'd get a real taste of living in a new country, and in a lovely place. There's lots to do around that area, public transport is generaly good in Europe and you might enjoy just exploring around where you're staying.
I would jump on it. There is so much to do in Amsterdam and then there is Brussels, Brugge, Antwerp, all within a days ride rt on the train. We spent 4 days there this summer and could have spent more. We really enjoyed the area.
We got back two weeks ago from a one-week timeshare deal in England and another week in France. There are lots of advantages to this kind of arrangement--unpack once, get to know the locals, forced to go grocery shopping, and small town sights you didn't plan for. I'm with the others, go for it!
You should accept the home exchange. Two weeks will fly by and you will feel as if you didn't have enough time. Holland is small enough that you can make day trips all the way to Brussels (though that must be the maximum and I would stick closer). Delft, The Hague, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Antwerp, Arnhem and the open air museum (which I haven't seen), and the often stormy coastline - lots to see and do.
Ten days in Amsterdam would be too long. Ten days in the area will be great.
It's unamimous then. Thanks for your feedback.
