Irish rail passes

Any suggestions about buying rail passes prior to going to Ireland? We will also use bus, is it safe to buy the combo pass there? Or, would you suggest buying the rail pass here and bus when there, will be all over the country.

You won't find the Irish train system to be very extensive, especially in the west. I would take a close look at where you intend to use trains and see how costs compare between p2p tickets and a pass.
