We're planning a trip to Ireland, our first European trip with our son. When we've traveled through Europe on our own we had no problems with drinking tap water. Now I am finding conflicting information about it's safety for our toddler (and I'd love to avoid diarrhea). Thoughts?
Even "safe" or "clean" water can give you diarrhea. Water from different locales contains microorganisms your body has never been exposed to, and in some people it causes a reaction like diarrhea. As to what you can do to deal with it...that's best left to your pediatrician.
Bottled water might be an option, but it, too, might cause a reaction if he's sensitive to changes in water.
They have alot of same brands of bottled water here, why not just try them out before you go.
I know I wouldn't bother going to my doctor just to ask about water in Europe,, but maybe others would.. I think he would tell you to just take some pepto bismal , , or something similar. They do have bananas, rice , applesause and toast in Ireland ,, which is the B.R.A.T. diet that most doctors prescribe for mild tummy upsets.
but..
Frankly , in a child that young, if he had the trots for more then a day I would take him to a doctor,, they dehrydrate so easy.
Really, I doubt he will get sick though, so don't over stress about it too much.
