My fiancee and I would like to get married in a small ceremony with the two of us in Ireland but there seems to be so much red tape! Is it possible to do this on our own or is there a service that will help with all of the registrar's requirements? I'm also open to suggestions for a quiet and beautiful location! Thanks!
Check the archives here for a prior post about this subject - there were links in some of the answers that might help you (like this one: http://www.dochara.com/info/misc-info/getting-married-in-ireland/). There IS a tremendous amount of red tape and there are also companies that can help with the process.
Many of the hotels (Ashford Castle) will help you with details like that. It's tricky. An alternative would be to do an 'official' wedding the US, and then have a ceremony in Ireland. Lots easier on the paperwork front!
Look into Kylemore Abbey in the Connemara area. They have a Gothic church and a walled garden (although you have to take a shuttle bus between the two)... I have no idea if they do weddings, but it is certainly beautiful, and pretty quiet if it's not a busy tourist day.
We will be spending two nights at this unique bed and breakfast in County Sligo, Ireland. We found it our Karen Brown book. Their website shows weddings. Haven't been there yet, so can't personally recommend it, but looks interesting and we can't wait to stay there. "Temple House, in Sligo, is a classical Georgian mansion set in a private estate of over 1,000 acres, overlooking a 13th century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar." Their web site is - http://www.templehouse.ie/
One interesting thing that I read recently about getting married in Ireland is that you cannot be legally married in a private home or outside. Only "approved" public buildings can be used for official weddings.
