Ireland's pubs---non-drinkers OK?

We don't drink... not Guiness or anything else... Would that be a problem for music sessions in the pubs? Last time I was with folks who drank, so it was easier. Any experience with this? Thanks

Pubs have a wide variety of beverages including coffee, tea, soft drinks, juices, and water. If you aren't alcohol drinkers, though, you won't want to order cider.

Cider will pickle you pretty fast.

I'm a beer drinker and used to feel a bit odd ducking into a pub for coffee....until I noticed that I was one of a zillion drinking coffee in the place.

A good many of the pubs have both music and grub, especially earlier in the evening.

I never felt pressured to buy alcohol any place in Ireland. In fact I never felt pressured by anyone for anything in Ireland. The Irish seem to be a friendly, easy going people in soical situations. Peer pressure will not be an issue.

I've no experience in Irish pubs, but do have a fair amount of experience in British pubs. The answer: No one will care. So, yes, order what you want and don't fret.

ANd, yes, cider there is alcoholic.

2 of us non-alcohol drinkers spent a month in Ireland and enjoyed their pubs and music and never had a problem - always ordered something tho - pop, coffee, etc. Their pubs seemed to be a real gathering place for all the locals, some of them not drinking alcohol.

With zero tolerance for drinking and driving - ordering non-alcohol drinks does not seem to be a problem anywhere nowadays. But do order juice, pop or coffee. Look around and you'll notice the other non-drinkers.

As all of the others have said you will have no problem ordering regular drinks. While you may feel slightly judged in North America because non-alcoholic drinks are more expensive, in Europe prices are much more even, so they really don't care.

You won't have any problems at all. People are now so anti-drink driving that it's pretty much expected that at least one person in any group will be drinking soft drinks.

My wife doesn't drink but I do and we were in Ireland in June. We went to pubs and stuff. I would have a pint and she would have Diet Coke. Even in the Gunniss tour they had that.

"Give a nice tip there will be nothing but smiles..."

No need to tip. Not expected and you will still get smiles.

A lady sitting next to me in a pub in Doolin was just drinking water. She did have a glass of wine when she first came in, but said she was driving. She sat for about 2 hours listening to music by herself and had about 4 glasses of water which she asked my husband to get for her. There is no pressure to order anything I noticed. You have to go up to the bar to place you order.

I had the bartender at The Temple Bar recommend a couple of nice non-alcoholic beers for me when I said I wanted a "fake beer". But if you don't like the taste that won't work...still no pressure...

A sandwhich might be an option at many pubs
