Is it feasible to travel from Portaloise to Cashel, Cahir, Cork, Cobh, Kinsale , along the west coast to Mizen head, skip Sheeps head and drive the Beara peninsula then return via Ballicky through the Pass of Keinmaneigh to Macroom to Cork and back up M8 to Portaloise all in one day ?
THANKS !! We appreciate the advice. It's what we suspected...back to the drawing boards :)
Possible ? Yes. Feasible,no. If you are just planning on driving and not getting out of your car you could make it in one day, otherwise, if you want to do any sightseeing this would make a nice three-four day trip.
We drove through Ireland in May for two weeks. I found that even though the driving is fast (speed wise), it took a long time to get from place to place. We were told that before we planned the trip, so we planned the trip with extra time and that seemed to work out great without feeling like we couldn't stop and do anything along the way. It is odd because you thing you are just on an island, but it takes time to get around it.
Go to the Michelin site and plug in the locations. I found their times to be very close to reality. My Garmin in country was also very close in predicting arrivals but that doesn't help much in planning.
Don't forget to estimate times to see the sites where you're going. The Rock of Cashel is worth two good hours.
