Ireland in September

Plan to visit Ireland for first time in September with husband. We will probably fly into Dublin and spend a couple nights, and then go on a road trip for 7 days, returning to Dublin. The entire island looks fabulous, but what are the "must see" sites? We are interested in outdoor activities and seeing small local villages. Also, is it possible to go reservationless after Dublin? I would like to just wander and stop and linger in a place we like, but husband is afraid we won't be able to find accommodations. Any advice for this Ireland novice would be appreciated!!!!

You'll be fine without reservations in September even though it's still peak season. As far as the "must sees" I never know how to reply. For some it would be the Blarney Stone, Waterford (the crystal) the Guinness factory and a golf course. NONE of which is a must see for me. The entire island IS fabulous, rent a car and off you go to see things that are interesting to you.
