Ireland from MN

Will plane tickets possibly go down from $1100pp for a trip in August '13? Want to know if we should nab this price or wait a bit for better pricing?

There is absolutely no way to know. August 2013 is a long way away and anything can happen in the meantime. August is also still in high tourist season. If it seems good to you, grab it. If you aren't sure, sign up with some fare alerts on various websites and watch for a bit to see how prices are trending. Whatever you do, once you buy tickets, stop looking at the prices.

I realize there is no absolute way to know.....just wondering if $1100 is a pretty good price or not.

No one knows, but I would guess doubtful. Your main problem is that Minneapolis is not a good hub for many European destinations, especially Ireland. You pay a premium for extra connections. Delta is rarely a good price from Minneapolis. I have two unconventional suggestions; 1) Do a one-way car rental from Minneapolis and drive to Chicago, then fly direct on Aer Lingus. There might be some sub $1000 fare potential there. Look into it. We did this coming back from Europe last year and it worked beautifully. The car rental cost $60. 2) You might find fares from New York for around $800 (there are some early June fares right now closer to $700). You then have to find another flight to NYC. SunCountry frequently has fare sales that are around $99-$129 each way from MSP to JFK. If you use this option, be sure to give yourself 3-4 hours minimum layover to guard against delays.

Julie - I just checked (on Travelocity) roundtrip fares to Dublin. From MSP, roundtrip is $1335. Roundtrip from O'Hare is $941 (This was on Delta). Roundtrip O'Hare to Shannon is $957. You didn't say how long you were planning on traveling so I used 8/6 - 8/15. Remember the cheaper fares are on Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday. Even the travel gurus aren't sure when to book airfare. It "seems" that the old advice to book far in advance is now obsolete. But when you get a good fare, you'd better book it. You might want to sign up for an alert on www.airfarewatchdog.com. It's a great way to find out about unadvertised specials. Last month I got roundtrip from Dallas to JFK for $137 on American. I jumped all over it. Safe travels!
