Hello All: My friend and I were considering traveling to Ireland during New Years, but we read in a guidebook that most of the towns/sights are shut down. Has anyone ever been in Ireland over New Years and have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Yes, most things are shut down between Christmas and New Years even if they are not closed for the winter. Many B&Bs close after November 1 until after the holidays, and a lot of attractions limit their operating days or hours during the winter.
Hi, It depends on where you're going. A lot is closed but there's a lot open as well. A lot of hotels, restaurants and pubs are all open except Christmas Day. After the 2nd of January everywhere gets really quiet. The weather can be really bad as well. Last year was fine but the 3 winters before that were really bad.
Might consider Edinburgh instead. Wear layers.
