Ireland Cottage Rental Help!

Anyone know about renting a cottage in Connemara or Galway areas? I am looking for a small 2-3 bedroom cottage, with character, for a few weeks.

I'm hoping to spend my time in the north/west of Ireland and want a home base and chance to mingle and enjoy the locals.

Steve, I'm going May 2009 so have time to plan. I am a little anxious about
just "renting" a cottage without some kind of recommendation. I know I want
to spend a lot of time in Connemara and the Dingle Peninsula.

I'm thinking of renting a cottage in Connemara but not sure what area to
look in.

I'll probably go to Dingle Peninsula towards the end of my trip and stay in B&B then off to the airport. I'm thinking Dingle is too far from Connemara for a day
trip.

Any thoughts for me??

Carolyn:

I self-catered in 2006 for the firt time and like you was a wee bit nervous w/out recommendations. I searched the internet. I ended up renting a townhouse w/in walking distance of Galway City Centre for a week. I rented a Thatched Cottage in 'the wilds of Clare' for a week. The third week I b&b'd it. What is great about renting is that you have a anchor and you can do day trips out. The best was that we were able to have my irish relations over at each location for family get togethers.

Since you are interested in Connemara google 'self-catering galway county'. Most rental properties are not listed by the number of bedrooms but the number of occupants. If you are planning your trip for two weeks you may want to rent cottage in County Galway and since your intersted in going to Dingle 'a mst see" you may want to rent cottage on the Dingle Peninsula or in County Kerry and to day trips out. good luck. if you have any questions please ask.
