Ireland Bus Routes/passes...help!

I will be arriving in Dublin airport from the U.S. First off I will need transport into the city from airport. I plan to stay in Dublin 3 nights/4 days, then onto Kilkenny 3 nights, Kinsale 3 nights, and Dingle peninsula 3-4 nights. I also will be using bus travel for day trips radiating out from those cities (Cashel,Cork,Cobh,Tralee, etc). Is the bus pass (the 8 of 16 days one) a good deal or not? Seems like I would break even? Any "hidden" restrictions on it? Also, should I get the Dublin bus or rambler 3 day pass or just pay as I go there (I would like to do the hop on/hop off too). I just dont want to waste the money if I wont use it (like the 7 ride undeground pass we bought in Barcelona and used only twice!)
Many thanks in adavnce for all advice/tips/info!!

I haven't used a Bus Eireann pass so the only advice I can give you is to go to the Web site and do a cost analysis. Compare the sum of individual tickets for the trips you listed to the cost of the 8 days in 16 pass.

Unless you really want to listen to a guide, you could skip the Dublin hop on/hop off bus tour. Buy a three-day Rambler pass, use it for the Airlink bus on the day you arrive, and construct your own tour for the remaining days you'll be in Dublin. And take advantage of the fact that central Dublin is compact and very walkable.

The hop-on hop-off bus is well worth the time. The ticket is good for a full 24 hours, so you could use it late the first day and have it to use most of the second day once you have decided where you would like to stop off.

The Dublin hop-on-hop off bus is well worth it. We used ti for two days and we saw a lot. I would definitely use it again because you don't have to figure out schedules and it goes to the sights you want to see. We never used public transportation in Dublin for the 5 days we were there. Dublin is a walking city but some things are a little far out. Take the red Hop On Hop Off bus from the Tourist Information Center. The TI can help you with a lot of your questions.
