Ireland between holidays

Our daughter has to be in Ireland on Jan 2nd for school. We are considering taking a short vacation in Ireland between December 26 and Jan 3, dropping her off in Belfast. This would give us seven days in Ireland for a quick visit. Two questions: is anything open between Christmas and New Years and what are your thoughts on a short trip?

Belfast is in Ulster or Northern Ireland which is part of UK. The Republic of Ireland is a separate country. So do you want to stay in Ulster or in Ireland?

We'd fly in to Dublin, travel south and up the west coast. Our last two days would be in Belfast.

All of the major tourist destinations will be open, but you might find fewer B&Bs open at that time of year. Still, there are lots of them and it shouldn't be a problem to find places to stay. You can look at B&Bs at www.discoverireland.com, get their contact information and email them to see if they have availability.
