Ireland B&Bs

My husband and I are going to Ireland this summer (June 17- July 2). I would appreciate any B&B recommendations. We are looking for walking distance to attractions, clean, friendly and safe. Tentative cities include: Galway, Kilkenny, Kinsale, Dublin. Thanks!

Galway - Petra House. Great spot - just a ten minute walk to the City center and Frank, the owner, is grand.

Kilkenny - check Carriglea, on Archer's Ave. It's right across from the Castle grounds and Josephine, the owner, makes a great breakfast and is very helpful with travel/sightseeing recommendations.

Kinsale - we stayed at Desmond House at it was fantastic. The rooms here were big and very comfortable and Michael, the owner, knows more about Kinsale than you'll ever need to know.

Dublin? I can't give you a good recommendation - sorry.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have booked nights at Trinity College in Dublin and am currently looking into the other cities as I firm up our travel schedule.

If anyone has any suggestions for around Cork/Cobh, or a castle hotel, that would be great.

We loved The White House in Blarney, which is very near the Cork/Cobh area. It's easy walking distance from convenience stores and restaurants, and the breakfast is excellent. The next morning it was a quick hop to Cobh (going around Cork on the north ring road to avoid the traffic).

I wonder what the going rates at these B&Bs are charging. We will be going for 3 weeks and want to know where to cut costs and splurge!

We stayed at the Man of Aran Cottage on Inishmore and loved it. It's very tiny with a thatched roof -- very charming. When we arrived, they served us tea on the patio overlooking the water with Connemara in the background -- it was sublime. It's an easy walk to the fort. The owners are very nice and cook a delicious breakfast and dinner.

Ann,

Many B&Bs in Ireland are actually cheaper than most hotels. I think it's because there are so many B&Bs there that competition lowers the prices.

My wife and I spent two weeks last May in Ireland, and stayed exclusively in B&Bs. We spent a total of about 70 euros, which at the time was about $100, each night.

Hotels at the moment maybe very good value. There are some great deals in some areas. Although you'll get a better feel for Ireland by staying in a B&B. Bay Berry House in Galway a bit from the town center, closer to Salthill

Thanks for the rec's. I am going to start booking hotels/B&B's this week.

I am debating whether to stay the night in Cashel after sightseeing at the Rock, or moving on and staying the night in Cork?

Any suggestions?
