Two adults and college age son- traveling to Ireland for 9 nights last week of August. Son is studying in Dublin. Our tentative itinerary includes 1st night in Kilkenny, 2 nights in Dingle, 2 nights in Galway, and 3 nights in Dublin. Reading Ricks suggestions on places to see and were looking for suggestions on where to spend the additional night. Should we look south or add a night. Thanks
Assume you are driving and if so, we enjoyed a night in Doolin and then saw Cliffs of Moher and then drove back to Dublin.
I would suggest a night in the Cork/Blarney area. That would give you time to see the Kilkenny area on Day 2 then a short drive to Blarney. The Rock of Cashel is nearby, too, as well as Cahir Castle. And even if you don't care about kissing the stone, Blarney Castle and its grounds are gorgeous.
After Kilkenny, I would add two nights in Kenmare. From that base, you can drivethe Ring of Beara, the Ring of Kerry, or visit the Gap of Dunloe. Kenmare is a pleasant little town with several good restaurants. Reduce Dublin to 2 nights. Alternatively, you might want to add 1 or 2 more nights to Galway so you have enough time to drive around Connemara and / or take the ferry to the Aran Islands from Roseveal.
