We enjoyed the RS ipod tours in Italy. Would appreciate any recommendations for tours in England (mostly London) and Ireland. I thought that Rick had some, but can't find them!
http://www.ricksteves.com/radio/tgr/tgr_menu.htm This is the website with all the audio tours - none for Ireland, but there are some for Britain. Plus tons of excerpts from their interviews on various subjects. There is an iPod app on iTunes specifically for his audio files.
Have a look at London Walks which is a tour guide who has recorded dozens of walks in real time over several years. They are all available for free download to an IPod (like I do) or any MP3 device. His style is the tiniest bit dry and monotonic but the knowledge is there and the price is right. He records a new one most weeks, the current ones are about London Wall. The easiest way to get them is to use an IPod or variant and subscribe via ITunes. You can go to the webpage above and get background info for each walk.
thank you both for the info. That's exactly what I needed.
