I'm traveling to London (only) with my iPad Mini. I have one of those "universal" plug adaptors (do you know what I'm talking about?). Would this work as an adaptor plug in the UK? Also, I have a month-to-month data plan with Verizon here in the States. Would it work to use my cellular access in London or would it be prohibitively expensive? I've heard some horror stories of people racking up huge data bills. If my current Verizon plan is not a good option, what would be a better data option? Thanks.
hi, i will take a stab at this since its pretty universal. chances are your okay, but. > look at the adapter for your ipad mini. it should say input voltages 110~220 VAC or something to that affect. If it does, your Good To Go (GTG). all you would need is the adapter. The thing that mates with the adapter to the wall. as far as (afa) your data plan here using it over there. I would check by calling/email/texting/letter/smoke signals to Verizon on how much the rates are for using out of the USA. if its too expensive to use your current plan, then ask what they have to offer. or others will chime in with other solutions. what i did was to buy an expensive GSM, quad band, unlocked phone with a local sim over there. happy trails.
If you think that wifi will be insufficient or inconvenient for your intended use of the iPad, look into the prepaid data plans available from UK carriers. We just returned from London where we found good deals on iPhone and iPad prepaid sim cards. Three has an ipad deal of 1 gigabyte of prepaid data good for 30 days for £15, about $25. You can get it at Three stores and Carphone Warehouse stores.
In London, all I needed was the adapter plug for my iPad mini. I put the device on the Verizon global data plan: 100mb for $25. Came in handy too, since everywhere charged for wireless... Of note, when you exceed your 100mb, Verizon notifies you and automatically adds another 100mb for $25. So much easier than it used to be.
