ipad in ireland

Anyone have any problems using their ipad in Ireland? I want to stay connected when we go and not sure if bring the i-pad is worth it or just use internet cafes.

Holly, If you want to stay "connected", I'd suggest bringing the iPad along. As Paul indicated, Internet Cafés may be harder to find these days (especially in smaller towns). Also, I've found on numerous past occasions that I get so busy touring that I can't get to the Café when it's open. Having an iPad or Netbook will be a much more convenient option! I packed along a Netbook on my last trip, and it will be with me on every trip from now on! You might check the websites for each of the Hotels you'll be using, as many these days provide Wi-Fi for guests, either free or for a small charge. Happy travels!

Holly, the general response is that internet cafes may be getting harder to find but there are lots of places where you can get wifi (McDonalds is apparently a safe bet). How connected do you need to be? What do you plan to do on the ipad? How keen are you on traveling light?

I don't plan on being on the internet often but I want to stay somewhat connected. I plan on using wi-fi at the B & Bs.

Unless you really want to travel light and are trying to cut ounces, then, yeah, I'd take the iPad. Personally, I am trying to cut weight so I'm trying to use a smartphone instead of a tablet or netbook. It is more of a hassle to do some things on the phone, but it is so light in comparison. But the bottom line is that I don't want to go without some data device. I don't do it at home; I don't want to do it abroad.
