Inverness or Aberdeen from the Cairngorms

I am rounding out my itinerary for 7 days in Scotland this Summer. I am starting in the western isles and ending in the Shetland Islands. In the middle, I am spending a day in the Cairngorms and then going to either Inverness or Aberdeen for a day and night before catching a flight to the Shetlands. Which one will I find more enchanting? I have been thru Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I'm completely biased, but checkout http://www.discoverroyaldeeside.com/castles/ Aberdeen itself is one of those cities that is fantastic to live in but not where you'd go for a holiday. People either come from aberdeen or have a reason to be here (usually oil). The countryside around the city is great. I like Glentanar estate and crathes castle best. If you are coming to Aberdeen, the atholl hotel is lovely. Ps Inverness is also lovely. Well done for venturing north! have a great time!

If you won't have a car, I would go to Inverness. It's bustling town and what I like about it is that Scots live and work there as well as tourists! Culloden Battlefield is well worth a visit. And if you want you can do day trips to Loch Ness from the tourist office. If you have a car, I would explore Deeside. The castles are wonderful, there are galleries, there are stone circles and more. Pam
