Inverness hotel and sightseeing suggestions

We will be visiting Scotland in Sept of 2012,and will have 2-3 days in Inverness before meeting our hiking group. This group will cover Culloden, and various points of interest down to Edinburgh. We are not hostel people, but not 5 star travellers either. We will probably not have a car so a well located hotel within walking distance of points of interest would be preferred. Any suggestions for hotels, tours, restaurants, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Rhonda - I would recommend St Ann's House(www.stannshouse.com) about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. Our family stayed there and found the hosts, Bob and Mary Ann, to be extremely knowledgable of the goings on in the area. Also their garden is a great place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. We also used Puffin Tours for a day trip to the Isle of Skye. I liked the fact that is was a small tour group, about 13-14 people.

We like to stay at the Royal Highland Hotel. It is attached to the train station. Excellent location. The Tourist Information center has lots of good information on tours. We, too have used Puffin tours and found them to be very good.
