Insurance in Ireland for car rental

I ahve nervously scanned the postings of horrific stories of how rental places take huge advantage of travelers w/ their dishonest and fees. I'm hoping and praying I won't encounter that at all. In 2000 I rented from National and they did try to bill me after I returned to US. I fought it with the credit card company and won. To my mind, once they sign off on the return of your vehicle, you are no longer responsible.

This week I've done a pkg deal w/ Aer Lingus Vacation Store and Dooley...again fearful re what is acdepted once one gets there, I called Dooley and was just told that yes, they do accept the World MC insur coveerage but they have a 2000E deductible. Just an FYI.

I understand Dooley reduces the deductible to 100euros if you pay additional excess liability waiver at 15 dollars p/day. Don't know if they would do this, but I would ask Dooley to send you the rental contract prior to arriving.

I know the insurance fees are ridiculous, but when I drive overseas in Ireland or England, I always pay it. Since I am not used to driving on the left side of the road, I am always very nervous that I will do something wrong. The last thing I want is to have my vacation any more ruined than it would be by trying to figure out how I was going to pay for the damage. So I just factor in the price as part of my vacation budget and I feel much better when I pick up the car and take off on my adventures.
