Has anyone taken this tour? It must be popular according to the info I have--says to book well in advance.
I'd do it! It sounds great--some of the scenes from the TV show look lovely!
I've never taken it but how bad could it be. Oxford is beautiful, it's about Morse. It sounds great to me.
You can certainly take the tour
BUT
If ever there was a job you could do for yourself it's this one.
All the books have outstanding descriptions of where and when incidents took place. With a small street map of the centre of Oxford you can find all except two of the famous 'Morse Pubs' and all the scenes of the crimes.
The only exceptions are The White Hart at Wytham ( take a taxi ) this is one of the two most filmed pubs and is the centre scene in the book 'The Way Through The Woods'. The other pub that is most filmed is 'The Trout' at Wolvercote ( you can walk over Port Meadow to it - it's a great walk and not at all taxing ). It is the centre scene of 'The Jewel That Was Ours'. Apart from those two pubs all the scenes and the colleges can be found right in the city centre. If you do it yourself you can do it at your own pace and stop and linger.
It is a fact that absolutely every Morse Pub serves top class real ale and are worth a visit just for their history alone.
A great book is "Scene of the Crime: aguide to the landscapes of British Detective Fiction" by Earwalker & Becker. With it and a good oxford guidebook/map you probably will not need the tour.

Thank You! Did you do a self guide tour of the Morse sights and pubs?
