I think I've seen this topic mentioned once before (?) We will be in the Cotswolds (have been there several times). Want to do something different. Has anyone been to Inglesham Church? (south of Lechlade.) If yes, is it worth the time? (It's an untouched church from the 11th century.) Thanks.
Have not been there, but there are a number of other very interesting (some would say unique) churches in Cotswolds. Fairford Church still has pre-reformation stained glass windows (most other church windowswere destroyed) and I think misericords. Minster Lovell church has a couple of Crusader tombs (Lovell family). Also Kilpeck church (West of the Cotswolds, but comfortable drive ) has ancient Celtic crossses, and pre-Christian decorations. There is also a church (do not recall the name) with a wooden steeple. We found a lot of these churches following up clues to "brass rubbing". (we dont do any rubbings, but the brasses are very interesting)
I have just checked. Expert Peter Wilkinson dates the Inglesham Church to "mostly 13th century" with sympathetic repairs later and most of the contents later than the 13th century. (Not very impressive from the exterior by the photos). This is in the borough of Swindon, so is reasonably close to Fairford which I refer to above
A visit to St Eadburgha church in Broadway is definitely worth a visit. This quaint church dates back to 972.
Something different: Have you been to the Cotswold Rare Breeds farm and also Chedworth Roman Villa. Also Compton Wynyates a (Tudor?) manor house?
Thank you! This has given me other options to consider.
