Hi everyone,
Has anyone visited Inchmahome Priory in the Trossachs area of Scotland? I am wondering how long a visit might take with the ferry ride from the Lake of Menteith?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone visited Inchmahome Priory in the Trossachs area of Scotland? I am wondering how long a visit might take with the ferry ride from the Lake of Menteith?
I went there a couple of years ago. I got there early and had to wait for the ferry to start up. I would allow a couple of hours, but you may do it in less time. The ferry ride takes minutes, but it does go back and forth and you may have to wait. It's a Historic Scotland property. See this link http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/index/places/propertyresults/propertyoverview.htm?PropID=PL_157&PropName=Inchmahome%20Priory Or search on Historic Scotland. In addition to the buildings it's easy to walk around the island. The lake is stocked with fish. When I arrived at around 9 AM all the fisherman were getting set to go out. They must have a set time to start as all of sudden a flotilla of little fishing boats headed out. I thought the lake was lovely and property very peaceful. I was the only person on the first ferry.

We visited there in 2005. The site was romantic and evocative, especially the priory. You ring a bell to summon the ferry from the island--very medieval. If you have a car, I would also suggest driving west from there down the side roads to the western shore of Loch Lomond. It was one of the most beautiful drives we had in Scotland.
