in Edinburgh buses and hangouts

Hello from Edinburgh. I am only here for three more nights just got here today. The bus system seems insane any tips? Me and my mom had to wait close to an hour for a bus back to b n b. I would love to find good local spot that is not a bar for 20 and 30 year olds. Somewhere I could meet locals. Any ideas? Also I love woolen but would love to find non tourist place. Thanks so much

The bus company is Lothian. You might also use this website. Are you getting the day ticket that let's you ride all day on one ticket? I would suggest that you post on the Edinburgh forum for trip advisor and say where she is trying to go. I think that they will better positioned to help you. I agree about the woolens in Edinburgh being very touristy. I usually by my sweaters in other towns. You might actually look in Jenners on Princes Street. While you're there check out the local jewelry designers on the ground floor. Seklkirk in the borders is the closest place I know with some really good shops. If you do make it up to Inverness, there is wonderful shop in Beauly. I'm afraid that you're just going to have to come back. Pam

Missed your question about pubs...I went to Sandy's Bells. They have sessions and it wasn't a mix of people. It's over near the University in Old Town. You could always try the Oxford Bar in New Town. This is where Ian Rankin has Inspector Rebus hang out. Ask your B&B host for suggestions as well. Pam

Down the A7 south of Galashiels. It's in the borders south of Edinburgh. Here's the Undiscovered Scotland Feature page. It's sort of on the way to Jedburgh where there is the Abbey.
