Hundreds of private gardens, including secret, historical and contemporary ones, open their gates to the public, for this weekend only, June8-9.
It costs £12 for all day and the website is www.opensquares.org.
Ha! I was going to write a post about this and decided 'Nah' but glad you did. It always tortures me when in London I must walk past SO many inviting neighborhood gardens knowing they are locked and inaccessible to anyone except those who live in the surrounding terraces.
Maggie,
Is this an annual event? We won't be in London this week-end, but are looking a couple years ahead. 2015 will be 50 years that my British pen pal and I have been writing and visiting each other and garden exploration together would be great!
Yes, I believe it is annual event. I've never been to it, but I know people who have and they've thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks! I've tucked the info away in my "next time to England" file.
That's great Leslie! I only read about this years event this morning, so I realise it's probably too late for most people. I was hoping someone like yourself would be able to see it for another year.
It is an annual event held in June. Your ticket is good for the weekend. Look for 'Open Gardens Squares' to learn more about it. We just got back from touring some gardens today and have our route planned for which ones we want to see tomorrow.
Thanks Nancy!
Rose, I agree- I didn't see this 'til this morning so it's too late for me this year- but next year, all being well, I'm going.
I definitely want to do this one year, my kind of event. Thanks, Maggie, I will save this.
