We are staying at the Heritage Resort in Killenard, 45 minutes west of Dublin, for 6 nights. Have a rental car. Need ideas for sightseeing, day trips, good eats, etc. THANKS!!
A little information about your interests would be helpful in making suggestions.
I just read that your place is - "Situated just off the M7 Motorway, 40 minutes from Dublin & within 5 minutes of 2 Commuter Train Stations." If you plan to go into Dublin one of the days, you should look into using the Commuter train instead of driving in. Also, on one of your days you are in driving distance to see Cashel ("Rock of Cashel"), Cahir, and Clonmel, if interested. We will be to see the area around Cashel after we leave Dublin in July, before heading to Doolin and north.
Thanks Marie!!
If you haven't already done so, post this question on irelandexpert.com. Totally focused on Ireland - great personal recommendations.
We just came back from cycling in SW Ireland, so don't have sense of Dublin/central Ireland area or travel distances, but it sounds like you will be well situated.
Definitely go to Cashel and Cahir. I was in Ireland for a week last summer, and my most striking memories are of these two small villages. In Cashel, make a point of going to Hoare Abbey. You walk through a cow pasture, and then you are alone among the medieval ruins. Cahir Castle was haunting. One of the best castles I've been to.
I agree, Cahir was my favorite castle.
