Hi! Im traveling from NYC to Copenhagen on Icelandair Economy Class and I do not understand the baggage rules. The Icelandair website says different things on different pages! Can I check 2 bags each weighing 50lb, or is 50lb my limit overall? I am in the process of packing now (I leave later this week!) and for the past few months I had planned on packing in 2 large suitcases please help!!!
I'd call the airline. But why do you need so much? I did a 3+week around-the-world trip that included both summer (Hong Kong) and winter (Sydney) weather. My ONE carry-on weighed less than 15 lb. No Checked Bags at all. I did take a day bag that was very light (less than 5 lb). But I could fit it in my carry-on if needed. Hubby's bag weighed only 10 lb.
WOW - kudos to Toni and hubby. I honestly don't know how you do it! My purse weighed more than 10 pounds!! This last trip I reduced from a 28" bag to a 24" and I was so proud of myself. Guess I still have a long way to go to get to one carry on.
I plan on calling the airline tomorrow morning. I was planning on bringing 2 bags because I am studying abroad in Copenhagen for the semester (4 months) I had hoped to bring a decent amount of toiletries and other supplies My carry on limit is 13lbs
Morgan....Denmark is not a third world country. Except for specific prescription items, I'll bet most of the toiletries and "supplies" you use can be bought there. Just bring enough to get started and then resupply when you need to. That will save a lot of weight. And regarding how much you're allowed...well.....guessing you're flying economy...here it is directly from the Icelandair website: Economy Class Permitted for each Economy Class passenger: * Flights within Europe/Weight Concept: (Europe to Iceland and return) Economy Class passengers are entitled to 20 kg (44lbs). * Transatlantic Flights/Piece Concept: (Europe to North America and return) two checked bags, not weighing more than 23kg (50lbs) each, total of the 3 dimensions (L+W+H) does not exceed 158cm (62in). Since you are flying from North American to Europe you're allowed two checked bags not weighing more than 50 lbs each.
Wife andI take 1 backpack each (20 lbs), she has a purse and I have a laptop in case and spend 4-6 weeks traveling in Europe in the summer. She buys toiletries, shampoo, etc as needed. Theirs are better than ours anyway. Even considering wifes clothing purchases during our trip, we only have 1 extra suitcase (we buy one there) to bring goodies home and it weights around 45-50 pounds. Could not fathom two 50 pounders. Getting them up stairs, esculators, etc and going down the street with them would scare me. Guess you will be using cabs for getting to and from airport. No way to carry them by self.
