Iceland money - 2 ?s

1) Am I right to assume I do NOT need to buy ISK (Icelandic krona/kruner) prior to arrival in Iceland, and that an ATM will be available in the Keflavik airport? Only reason I ask is that I know the Keflavik airport is very small and may not provide all the services you find at other European airports.

2) Although Iceland has its own currency, do they accept Euros as an alternate?

Thanks for any info.

The airport is small, but not THAT small! I'm fairly certain it has an ATM - or a dozen of them.

We were there in 2008 before the currency crash (it was 80 to the $ then) and we paid via credit card for the bus to Reykjavik, checked into the hostel with credit card, then were directed to a cash machine, so we didn't bother with currency right away, but I'm sure you could.

I would pay for as much as possible via credit card. You might be able to use the card for everything but city bus fare in Reykjavik.

Keep some of their currency as a souvenir though. It won't be around much longer, IMO.

1) Yes. There are a few locations of ATM and banks.

2) Some places might, but the exchange rate will not be in your favor.
