We have an extra two days in our intinerary and was wondering if it would be better to fly from Seattle to Iceland and spend two day there or fly from Seattle to Copenhagen and they take a boat from there to Tallinn. We are planning on doing a Scandanavia trip and we are planning on going to Nnorway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. So with these countries which of my options would be better? We love beautiful scenery and are thinkin Iceland would be beautiful. Don't know much about Copenhagen's and Tallinn's beauty. I know Cophenhaen it sort of like a harbor and have seen it on rick steve's videos. Just wondering which one you prefer, thanks!!
Without knowing your full itinerary it'll be hard to say, but Tallinn is a 45-90 minute ferry ride from Helsinki. Sounds like you will be in Helsinki so I'd make the time to see Tallinn then. It makes for a very nice day trip. Will you be taking the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki? Hopefully so because the scenary of the archipelago is stunning. And the harbor arrival in Helsinki is beautiful too.
Copenhagen is a great city but not as scenic as Stockholm or Helsinki or some other places. It's more like Amsterdam with some canals and all very flat. But it's a "must" on any Scandinavian tour.
I'm sure Iceland is beautiful, but I'd think stopping there would be very expensive. How much would you really see in 1-2 days?
Iceland is definitely beautiful, and a nice stopover, so I'd say it's worth looking into. It can be done pretty cheaply because Icelandair offers free stopovers and just generally has some good deals. I get nasty jetlag going east so it was nice to break the whole trip in half too.
I did a four day stopover in September when I was flying to France to start a new job, and loved it. I stayed in hostels and ate a lot of hotdogs, so I was able to keep my cost at around 300 dollars (not including airfare, of course) including a golden circle tour, daily trips to the pool/hot pots, and a horseback ride. So that's my vote, but keep in mind I've never been to Tallinn!
