Am thinking of doing a trip to Icleand as part of a European trip. Is it doable? Worthwhile?

Doable, worthwhile, cheap (well, at least the airfare; eating there is another story). Icelandair has great fares and you can use them to fly to many other destinations in Europe. They'll even let you do a stopover in Iceland at no extra charge. Go for it.
