I am a Beatles fan but Liverpool for 3 days????

Planning a trip in the summer wth a my daughters who are HUGE Beatles fans. Our itinerary is 2 days in London, 3 days in Edinburgh and 3 days in Liverpool, then back to London. I'm pretty sure I'll have enough of the Fab Four after a day or so. Would love to go to the Cotswold Villages. Is this do-able by train? How far is it? I can do a bus, but we will not have a car. Open to suggestions. Oh, and btw.... they are old enough to leave them by themselves, even over night.

Susan: an overnight stay in Liverpool let's you do the essential Beatle sights: the bus tour, the Beatles Story museum and..on the next morning, the National Trust tour of the interiors of the Lennon and McCartney homes. (make advance reservations for the Nat Trust tour!!!!!!!!) There are other things to see and do in Liverpool, including a branch of the Tate Gallery, but really 2 nights/1 and 1/2 days would be just fine. If you stayed longer, you might want to be a day tripper to nearby sights....there was an earlier discussion on this site of that very topic. North Wales, as I recall, was the consensus recommendation. Getting from Liverpool to the Cotswolds and touring the Cotswolds without a car would be difficult, and in a single day just about impossible IMO. The only train service into the Cotswolds stops at Moreton-in-Marsh. Otherwise, you have to get around the Cotswolds on foot, with a car, or with buses or taxis. See RS' excellent chapter on the Cotswolds in his England book. Why not rearrange your itinerary slightly to go from London to Bath, overnight in Bath and the next day take one of the "Mad Max" tours of the Cotswolds? That evening you could train from Bath to Liverpool, and then give Liverpool a full day before leaving for Edinburgh after lunch the second day.

I liked Liverpool for a day. I focused on the naval/shipbuilding history of the area and skipped the Beatles. I could probably add a half-day and evening doing Beatles sites. Without visiting friends or relatives, I'm not sure I could stretch it to three full days. Maybe you can rent a car and head to the Cotswolds for a night?

For Cotswolds you need a car or an organized tour- for the super-rich you can hire a driver. But you definitely need a car

It sounds like you're planning to leave the Fab Girls in Liverpool while you take a breather - be sure there's some back-up plan in case they, too, decide after a day or two that they've been Here, There, and Everywhere...and are ready to become Day Trippers and purchase their own Ticket To Ride... I'm soooo sorry ;-)

(Karen picks up the gauntlet...) It will be a Long and Winding Road to the Cotswolds, but it can be done With a Little Help from My Friends. Without a firm plan it will be all Helter Skelter. And if you don't let your daughters do what they want, Instant Karma's gonna get you.

(Susan, after THIS post, you can completely skip Liverpool - I'm going to make you sick of the Beatles - unfortunately) Karen, (Ah) Girl; you're a Woman for picking up the gauntlet. I'm sure You're Gonna Carry That Weight; Don't Let Me Down. Everyone, Come Together - Do You Want To Know A Secret? OK - I Should Have Known Better. I'm just A Fool On The Hill...In My Life, this is simply A Day In The Life - Eight Days A Week! By now, I'm sure all of you are beginning to Twist And Shout. I hope We Can Work It Out. Before Maxwell's Silver Hammer comes down upon MY head, I echo Michael 1 in my believe that at this point I should just Let It Be. This bird has flown... We are going to Liverpool for 4 days in March and planning to take the train to Chester one day and if we need another day out up to Blackpool, you can get to Chester on the local Merseyside trains and it has wonderful Roman and Medieval sites and shopping, and well who doesn't want to see Blackpool just once and you can use national rail for that, but I agree that trying to get to Cotswolds area would really need a car.
