How to get to Keukenhof Gardens?

Does anyone know the best way to get to Keukenhof Gardens from Amsterdam? I'm staying in Prinsengracht and I "think" the best/easiest way may be to go to back to the airport and get a bus from there.
Any suggestions?
Also - if I'm taking the bus, will I have a chance to see windmills as well? I want to see at least one or two. I've planned this trip around art, tulips and windmills!
Thanks!! =)

Easiest is bus from Amsterdam (via Schiphol I think); check Keukenhof's website and you'll see all the options bus/car/train. There's a windmill you can 'visit/climbe' on site overlooking the adjoining tulip fields and if you want a bit more detailed, hands-on 'tour/explanation' of one, Leiden is your best bet.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks! Good info on the windmill - I can't wait to see one! I know its cheesy - but I've transferred through AMS several times and have yet to see tulips or a windmill. I can't wait!

If you really want to do tulips and windmills, you can do a 'circle' trip and do Amsterdam to Leiden by train, see the windmill in Leiden (easy walk from the train/bus station), back to the station, catch a bus to Keukenhof, tour the gardens and then bus back to Amsterdam. Icing on the cake, and if you want to see flowers, check the website for the Aalsmeer flower auction. Get there early one morning and watch literally millions of flowers bought and sold in the space of a few hours for immediate shipment out of Schiphol to cities all around the world.

Both Leiden and Haarlem have regular bus service (mid-March to mid-May) from outside their train stations to Keukenhof Gardens. Both towns are worth a visit by themselves. You might also enjoy going to Zaanse Schans where you can see a windmill village with 4 working windmills. It's just 10 miles NW of Amsterdam by train.
Do a google image of Zaanse Schans to see some nice photos of the village.

If you want to really see some great windmills, and you have a day or so, go to Kinderdijk. It is east of Rotterdam, and a World Heritage site. There are 19 windmills there truely a site to behold. To get there from Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam: Take a train to Rotterdam Central Station---From Rotterdam Central Station take a metro to Zuidplein Station, Stamp 7 strips of your strippenkaart, then Take bus 154 to Utrecht. You don't have to stamp the strippenkaart again. Ask the driver to bring you to the Kinderdijk windmill complex, total time for this journey is about 60 minutes(travel info taken from a post on virtualtourist.com). There are many pictures of the area posted on the internet. We traveled May of 2007 and just missed the display at Keukenhof, as it closed the day we arrived(May 20). Since we missed Keukenhof--we did go to the Tuilpland Panorama in Voorhout--that was very interesting also.
