How to get from Scotland to Ireland?

What is the best way to get from Glasgow, Scotland over to Ireland (not northern Ireland)? We will be flying home from Dublin so are there other towns we could arrive in? I've looked at some ferry websites but haven't had success with anything.

Thanks
Angela

I don't see anything from Glasgow to Ireland on any ferry site that I look at. However, there is ferry service from Troon to Larne in Northern Ireland. See P&O Irish Seas (www.poirishsea.com).

There is also ferry service from Cairnryan to Larne and from Stranraer to Belfast. If you don't want to dock in Northern Ireland, then you'll have to take a ferry from Liverpool to Dublin. See timetables for all routes at www.directferries.co.uk.

Ryanair flies from "Glasgow" to Dublin. "Glasgow", however is Prestwick, about 30 miles south west of Glasgow. I used to live close to there, and I think I heard that there is now a railway station accross the road from teh airport, if so, it would be easy to get to it from downtown Galasgow. If you are going to Edinburgh, and you make that your last stop in Scotland, there are Ryanair flights from Edinburgh to Dublin also.

The ferries go from N. Ireland to Scotland or Dublin or Dun Laoghaire to Liverpool or Holyhead (Wales).
Flying is your best option on low cost Ryan airlines. book early for best fare.
