How to get discount tickets at attractions in UK

I have seen posts about getting a 2 for 1 deals when purchasing a tube ticket at attractions like the Tower of London, Windsor Castle, Roman Baths etc. Is this all you have to do? I was considering getting the British Heritage Pass but it is expensive when not going to all the sites it lists. Is there a cheaper way to get discounts or should I try to book each on before I leave for my trip? We will only be using the train/tube for visits into London and using a car for everything else. Thanks for your help.

It's worth trying the tourist information centres. You will often find they have leaflets that advertise special discounts. For example, I used to live in Somerset and every year the tourist board would publish a leaflet which listed all the local attractions and had a page of coupons. Which areas are you thinking about visiting?

We are going to be staying in Brackley but plan to visit Bath, Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle, Warwick Castle, Iron Bridge Gorge, York, Holmfirth (reason for the trip because I am a Summer Wine fan), London and everywhere in between.
Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Here is the 2for1 site, it covers London and some other areas. You can only use the offer if you have a National Rail ticket/Travelcard (NOT a Transport for London tube ticket or Travelcard loaded on an Oyster Card) valid on the day of your visit. See the T&Cs for the definitions of validity eg a return (roundtrip) railway ticket would be valid on the days between the first and last journey, just hold on to the two parts of the ticket.

Some years ago we really enjoyed an hour or two in Holmfirth. Be advised that Last of the Summer Wine is on the way out. The current season is the last. What that will do to the tourist attractions there remains to be seen.

Hello Pamela,

We just returned from London last Friday and used the "2 for 1" coupons at several sites. Here is what you need to do. You will need a valid rail ticket OR travelcard (which covers the tube and bus transportation) which covers the date you are visiting the specific attraction.. With regard to the travelcard, you need to purchase it at a national rail station and NOT at a tube station. Kings Cross, Victoria and Paddington are all National Rail stations as well as tube stations. We flew into Heathrow and then took the tube to Kings Cross and purchased our travelcards there (the national rail station is upstairs from the tube station) and then used them on the tube to get to our lodgings. Before leaving home I printed out the coupons (from the days out guide website) for the things we wanted to see and then took them with us - the days out guide has these coupons in the back but I didn't want to have to worry about finding the guide in London, etc., etc.

This may seem a bit time consuming but if you are visiting a number of sites it can definitely save you money.
Hope this helps!
