How much is CDW in Ireland when you rent a car?

I would like good coverage for myself and the friend I'm traveling with. Can anyone give me a ballpark how much more CDW insurance will be when renting? Also, are there extra taxes, etc. when the car is picked up at the Dublin airport? Thank you!

If you go to www.expedia.co.uk, you can get a rate with all charges included. It will be cheaper than any rate you will find in the US.

Check the quotes you get and read the fine print on what they include. There's usually an extra charge for picking the car up at Dublin airport, but I noticed a similar charge for picking a car up at other places around Dublin, too.

The regular CDW is not that expensive and usually included in whatever quote you get. The issue with that is that there's a deductible, usually around 1100-1500 euros with that. To cover that, you need the "super CDW", which is expensive, or excess coverage through a 3rd party, like dailyexcess.com.

Whatever you end up going with, make sure you save a copy of your final quote. We ended up with some extra charges, and were able to have those removed since I had saved my quote.

Jill - no matter what company you rent from, their published rate will not include the often-huge CDW deductible. For total coverage and peace of mind, always buy the "super CDW" which leaves you with no deductible. If anything happens, you'll be glad you did.

Best purchase from a 3rd party as the leading ones offer their own comprehensive insurance at a fraction of the price the car hire companies do. Only downside is if you have a claim you have to pay the car hire company and claim the money back from the insurance company.
I rent a car from Dublin Airport once or twice a year. I have found all of the main companies there to be very sharp. Its really important you mark even the smallest scratch on the sign out paper otherwise they'll hit you when you return.
About 1 out of 3 times they don't refund the gas if you bring it back full and you have to chase them. They always say its an oversight but after it happens several times it sounds a bit hollow.

All the car hire depots have been moved well outside the airport and are in a business park one after each other, but the shuttles are quite regular.

Companies I use are easyCar and Holidayautos both web brokers.

We're going to Ireland in June. What does CDW stand for? Thanks all for the tips though.

CDW is collision damage waver, basically the insurance you buy when you rent the car.

Hi

CDW stands for collision damage waiver... Depending on the car this can be anywhere from 1000 to 1500 euro. This is the amount YOU pay if you total the car or anything happens to it while its in your possession. Here the thing, should you scratch the car or damage it in any way the deductible is 1000 euro. Last year I hit a pot hole and damaged the tire. I had the "excess reduction insurance" and I only had to pay 100 euro.

When you pick up your car at the desk they will ask you if you want to purchase "excess reduction insurance" this insurance drops your deductible from 1000 euro to 100 euro in the event you have an accident or mishap. This insurance generally costs between 12 and 20 euro a day depending on the car.

I HIGHLY suggest you take out this insurance. Driving in Ireland is a white knuckle experience for first timers. It is not for the faint of heart. Once your over there and get used to it it can be enjoyable.
