I am traveling to Norway in the middle of June and will be doing a two day journey through the Nutshell area. I'm not taking the typical route so I am booking each leg on my own. How far in advance should I make a reservation? The two ferry companies are changing routes this spring and can't tell me what will be available in June or when to book reservations so I wanted some feedback on how long to wait. I understand some boats/trains are popular and don't want to miss out.
We arrived in Oslo in the morning in mid-June, 2009, and went to the train station to buy Nutshell tix for the next day. Everything worked out just right. Hope our experience will help you make your decision.
Have a great trip.
The reservations are most important on the Oslo-Bergen train segment. Seat reservations are required on this route and the train often sells-out. So as soon as you know your exact travel dates you should make the reservations ASAP.
When I did the nutshell the tickets for the boats were just general tickets, only the train required reservations.
