How do we get from Dublin to Dingle ?

Our family of 4 adults will be staying outside of Dublin for 2 nights in June. We just found out we can extend our Ireland stay by 2 more nights before leaving for Amsterdam. My question is: do we have enough time to get from Dublin to Dingle before flying out of the country? We don't have our airline tickets yet, so we could possibly fly out of Shannon airport, if that's closer to the Dingle area.
I'm planning our itinerary and I don't have a clue how long it takes to get to Dingle, nor the quickest way to get there. Do we take a train, bus or rent a car? My husband is willing to drive if it can be done in that time frame. Thanks for any help!

We are planning our 12 days in Ireland trip, and I can say to drive ONE WAY from Dingle to Dublin can take up to 5 hours. Don't let the low miles/km fool you! And for that matter, the roads are not as large as the ones found in the U.S. I've read and are planning on renting a car since that seems to be Rick's recommendation, as is also the recommendation of the many friends and colleagues that have been there.

2 days is fine---Fly to Shannon, and rent a car to get to Dingle. It is much easier to drive in the West than near or IN Dublin, as there is less traffic--although roads are narrower. He'll get the hang of it by the time you get to Dingle! The drive is beautiful, and follow Rick Steve's Dingle Peninsula tour allowing plenty of time for photos. Spend a night in Dingle if you can, there are lots of nice B&Bs, but book ahead of time. It was the highlight of my 2nd trip to Ireland.
