Houston to Paris/Houston to London????

I am planning a trip in October and want to see the WWII battlefields in northern France, cross to England on the ferry, take in Cornwall and area. Should I fly to Paris and rent a car and go from there or fly to London and rent a car, etc.

Any recommendations for B&B's, pubs, what to see will be very welcome. I have not traveled in either of the areas before.

What you suggest is exactly what we planned to do. I travel with a friend who loves to read maps so she navigates while I drive. I have driven in Ireland and England previously and always rent a car with automatic so I eliminate one problem. Do you have a car rental agency you recommend? If we flew to Paris first we would leave that rental car in Frane and take the ferry to England. AAA says they can arrange to have a car waiting for us on either side.

Thanks for your reply!

Many people, myself included, recommend AutoEurope, a consolidator that finds you the best deal from among the companies with which it has contracts. If you find a better deal on your own, AE promises to either match or beat it. Go to www.autoeurope.com. While you can easily book online, it's a good idea to call the toll-free number and ask about any specials that don't appear on the Web site.

Vicki, one thing to note is that Continental just started direct service into Heathrow in the recent past. Check your flights now because London flights have been very cheap out of IAH, since they now have the additional flights into both Gatwick and Heathrow. We found it to be much cheaper than Paris.
