Hotels near St. Pancras Station, London

Does anyone know of good, economic hotels near St. Pancras?

There is a cheap Ibis Hotel next to Euston Station which is a couple blocks away. Not that cheap, Michael, and I gave it a very poor review on TA. Much closer and probably cheaper, and at least as nice, is a Premier Inn, almost directly across the street from St Pancras. Early reservations can pay off with the Premier Inn chain, late ones can be less of a value. There are also many small hotels in Gower Street, several have been mentioned here previously and I have no first hand knowledge of those so won't recommend.

"...Not that cheap, Michael, and I gave it a very poor review on TA..." Stayed there for three nights last month, got a pre-paid rate of $99USD; which is dirt cheap for London. Room was excellent, appeared to be recently remodeled. Only issue I had was with the not-free WiFi via Orange Mobile; they ripped me off. After I returned to the US I emailed the hotel manager about it, she got me a refund a couple days later and told me the contract with Orange expires in June, and they will be providing free WiFi after that. Had such a good stay that Ibis Euston will now be my regular hotel for London. Most reviews on Trip Advisor are positive. Try and get a room in the newer wing (rooms only have a shower), they have individual climate controls. The older rooms have central and you can't control the temperature.

My issues, if I remember right, revolved around an issue with the wifi (sound familiar - I was assured it was temporary), other poor service at Reception, paper thin walls in the annex we were in, a weird lift, and difficulties getting out in the morning in time for an early train to Paris. I regularly stay all around Europe, often in one Accor line or another and with many a stay at Ibis. It goes to show that, as well as there not being a one-size-fits-all vacation the same can be said about hotels. Or maybe we had a bad room, and there are much better rooms. Dunno

I would recommend the Crescent Hotel if you are okay staying in a smaller hotel. The hotel is located on Cartwright Gardens in quite a pleasant neighborhood. It's just a short walk to Saint Pancras Station. My mom discovered the hotel years ago when we visited when I was a child. Two years ago I was studying abroad in England and my easter break was during the Royal Wedding so my family came over. Because of the Royal Wedding many hotels were booked up so my mom looked back to figure out when where we previously stayed and booked there. Both times we've loved it. It's reasonably priced and family owned. If you want a more traditional experience instead of staying at a chain, I highly recommend it.
