Can anyone recommend a hotel near Paddington? In August my wife and I need a room near Paddington (so the Heathrow Express is convenient) on a Saturday night. The Quality Crown Hotel Paddington looked like a good choice, but they will not rent a room on Saturday unless a minimum of two nights is booked.
The Paddington Hilton is right in the station. They might have special weedend rates.
We stayed at the Falcon Hotel on Norfolk Square. It's only 3 blocks from Paddington station. The English breakfast was included. No elevators, but if you're traveling light it's no problem. As for a minimum night stay requirement, I don't think they have one. Freddy, the owner and his staff are very kind and helpful.
There are several other hotels on both sides of the square as well. And if you're looking for a place to eat, the Swan Pub is within easy walking.
Try Lancaster Hall. It is about 3 blocks from Paddington and 2 short blocks north of Hyde Park. It is inexpensive for London and very nice. I agree, try The Swan pub. We always eat there at least once while in London.
We have stayed at the Rhodes Hotel near Paddington Station twice, once last November and the second time just last week. It is about a 5-8 minute walk from Paddington (a similar distance from Lancaster Gate tube station, as well). The owners, Chris and Maria, are delightful, very friendly and helpful. The rooms are London-small, but spotless, and all bathrooms are newly upgraded. Free wireless Internet is included, and a free computer is available just outside the breakfast room. Each room also has air conditioning, which means a lot during the hot August summer months! Last but not least, breakfast is included. If I sound like a fan, it is because I truly am. My husband and daughter are just as enthusiastic! Please do give them a try: Rhodes Hotel, 195 Sussex Gardens, London W2 2RJ, England; Tel: +44 207 2620 537; Fax: +44 207 723 4054; www.rhodeshotel.com
Also, I recommend taking the Heathrow Connect instead of Heathrow Express. Much cheaper and nearly as quick. Google it to see the fares, times, etc.

Of course, there is the fairly new easyHotel near Paddington.
We stayed 2 nights at the "Edward Hotel" about 2 blocks from Paddington Station. It was clean, comfortable, with rather small rooms, but didn't need anything larger for just a place to spend about 7-8 hours sleeping. And the price was very reasonable thru Hotels.com Dan
Just a comment on the Paddington easyhotel..I stayed there. Staff is not fluent in English, and not very friendly. The noise from the trains can be heard through the floor no matter which area of the hotel you are in, and I even switched rooms. Also, it is right next door to a porn shop and across from a chip shop so there was a weird conglomeration of... loud...tipsy...people... hanging out there on the weekend. Just an FYI. Nothing horrible...just a warning!!!
