Hotels in York?

Anyone found a gem recently?
A/C may be a necessary for us.

We like to stay at the Royal York. It is the rail station hotel. Very nice, has beautiful garden, and is just a short walk to center of town.

Hi Barbara, York native checking in.
When are you travelling to York?
A/C isn't very common, for the good reason that we don't usualy need it. It is VERY rare for the temp in York to go above 22C (70F).
If you really need A/C, you will be looking for a large hotel like the Hilton or Marriott (and I don't know if even they have A/C in the bedrooms).
Gems (i.e small romantic b&b's) are normaly converted houses, and as such don't tend to have a/c.

Thank you, Leonie, for your kind reply. Living through our Dallas summers, A/C is sorely needed. York sounds much more climate friendly.

We liked the hotel du vin a lot. It's a small luxury boutique hotel with character and a great restaurant. It's an easy walk from the train and city ctr. I'm not sure if they have ac. Last summer we definitely didn't need it. Good luck!

Best Western Dean Court Hotel is directly across from Yorkminster. We enjoyed staying there in 2005.

My Mum and I stayed at the Kilima Best Western hotel when we went to York and found it easy to get from the hotel to the centre of town which was a short walk (10 mins at most). The staff was friendly and they had a 4 course dinner that was quite good.
