We are doing a 15 day Britrail in September and planning to make hotel reservations at the end of each day instead of preplanning our stops ahead of time. I have a couple questions. Do you have a favorite website in the UK similar to an Expedia here that has good information, price selections of hotels and can be booked on line the day of travel. Do you have a favorite hotel chain in the UK (mid price - holiday inn, premier) that you would recommend which has consistency in rooms, cleanliness, price etc. Thanks in advance,

Yes I do; it's www.expedia.uk.co and the reason I use it instead of the US one is that consistantly it is cheaper and more varied than the US site.
The Accor line of hotels has something for every price level.
