Best bargain for 3 people in Oslo and Bergen in July

I was in both cities in 2007 and found them to be VERY expensive and that is considering I live in Hawaii most of the year! Have you gotten Rick Steves latest guide book on Scandinavia? If not, I found it very helpful.

We went to the Norwegian fjords and Bergen (no Oslo) in 2002. The area is incredibly beautiful but the words "best bargain" and Norway do not belong together. Norway is a very expensive country to visit---even the people we met in England and France thought so. (Norway is the country that does not want to join the EU because it would LOWER its standard of living.)

Hello Barbara. In OSLO : Cochs Pensjonat, located in back of the royal palace. Walking distance from the National Theatre train station. Internet : www.cochspensjonat.no. A room for three persons costs less than $ 120. per night. For a room that does not have a private bathroom. That is a low price for hotels in Oslo. It has a friendly staff, computers for internet access, Television in a lounge room. Room in a private home : Ragnar and Frode, at Hasleveien 8, and at Tromsogata 31, both are near the Carl Berners Plass tram stop. A Room for three persons costs approximately $ 80. per night. Bathrooms and kitchenette down the hall. And they have apartments (2 rooms) that cost $ 100. per night. Internet : www.hasleveien.com. Mobile phone : 90013661. In BERGEN : Skansen Pensjonat, located near Floibanen funicular, has apartments that cost less than $120 per night (last year, but I do not know what the price and money exchange rate will be in July, 2009). non smoking. www.skansen-pensjonat.no. This place is popular : reserve your apartment several months before you go there.

I'll second the nomination for Cochs. Good location, good price.

On Bergen we did Citybox one night for about 100 USD (Room for 2 w/ Private Bath). Very spartan w/ ikea furniture but clean and decently located.

Also there was a lot of private accomdoation in Bergen where you might be able to find a deal if your open and flexible to different situations. Sharing baths etc.

I second the recommendation of Skansen Pensjonat. We arrived in Bergen in summer 2007 on the train in the evening (after a long "Norway in a Nutshell" day) in the pouring rain and were able to walk (yes, the last part is steep) up to Skansen Pensjonat. The room was spartan but comfortable, with showers down the stairs and a lovely breakfast. It was also very close to the tourist sites of Bergen (and the McDonald's). No TV, but I think there was a sink in the room.
