hotels in England

I just found a website that if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in London, go to Easyhotel.com. I see that one hotel just opened in September near Paddington Station. I wish I had known about this site before I went to London. It is nothing fancy but it looks rather new, clean and it is half the price than what we paid in June, 2008. It reminds me of the IBIS and other chains. You could easily find breakfast at a nearby bakery or cafe if you don't need the B AND B. They mention they do not make up or clean your room while you are there but I stayed in other B&B's in Italy that didn't touch our room in the four days we stayed with them. I would stay there if we get back to England.

I just booked 6 nights in Earls Ct and the final night in Paddiington, all at the easyhotel. Its cheap now, I paid 175 pounds for 7 nights!! (Including VAT - each room was 25 pounds a night) The reviews are good, rooms small but clean, basically all most people need - bed and shower & toilet en suite. Might not work for families though, or people who are claustrophobic!
EasyHotels are within close walking distance of the tube stations. There is also one opening up at Heathrow in October.

They are tiny ( think of a walk in closet) and no breakfast ( I believe) I think there are many B&B you would enjoy more check out celtic hotel Russell Sq

Easyhotel does not include maid service. If you want the housekeeper to clean your room or give you fresh linens or towels, you pay for it. (They do it before you check in, of course.) And you only get one bath towel per person.

But it is cheap.

I'd be willing to stay at the Easyhotel chain. I don't need a clean towel every day. The hotel we stayed in at 73 GBP in June had the bathroom down two flights of stairs. These have the ensuite. I'm only in the room to sleep anyway. I'll have to make note for my next trip to England - hopefully!!! Thanks for the comments.
Like I said I wish I had found this BEFORE I went to England in June of this year.

Go to easyhotels.com to see what their rooms are like. I didn't take the time to see if they had a "contact us". I will definitely look into this hotel if/when I get back to England. Let us know what you found out. Thanks.

Ron, go to www.hotellink.co.uk/hotels/london for a long list of hotels. I don't know what the prices are but there are so many to choose from. My husband and I stayed at The Falcon Hotel near Paddington Train Station and Tube. The price was 70+ GBP which is expensive to us but...It was north of Hyde Park and within walking distance to The Swan pub that had good fish and chips. I think I'd try the easyhotel on my next trip. We are usually only in our room to sleep.

Most Easyhotel rooms do not have windows!
That may be imp to some travelers.

I was looking at Easyhotel's website, for two people the rooms started at 120pds and I noticed that if you want to use a tv remote that would cost extra. And like Frank said, if you want an extra towel or your room cleaned that would cost extra. They do not have breakfast.
On tripadvisor, in the ratings the location of these hotels were high but the rest of the ratings were low.

I've made 3 reservations at Easy Hotels in London for nights during the next few weeks at Paddington and Victoria. On the website, rates varied and choices of rooms varied. I had a choice of a window at least once, and just once the rate was 25GBP/night for a single. The other nights I will be paying 39GBP. I'll know more after I'm there. If the hotels are clean and convenient to transportation, and if the beds are comfortable, I'll be ok with Easy Hotels. Oh, yes, I also need a decent reading light. I don't expect to be spending a lot of daylight hours in my rooms.

Swan...can you post your impressions upon your return? Thanks!

I'm like Norm, would love to hear Swan's impressions of the hotel. On tripadvisor one person said that she and her husband had to take turns sitting on the bed so the other one could walk around the bed.

I would also like to hear of other people's experiences with Easyhotel upon their return. Therefore, I am looking forward to reading your postings.

I stayed at the Earls Ct Easyhotel twice already for a week each time, and the Paddington location for one night. Room/bathroom is tiny, you can put your foot on the toilet when you shave your legs in the shower.. lol..Just picture a room being built around a double bed, with a bit more space, and a tiny ensuite loo. But they are clean. If you have an issue with a room, they will move you to a different one.. You might hear some footsteps or luggage going up and down stairs, or a door shutting occasionally, but it isnt constant. Earplugs take care of that at night! I am off to London again in Nov and I plan on using the Earls ct EH again as it is a 5 minute walk to Tesco grocers, and near the Earls Ct tube station which brings you out onto Earls ct road, which has tons of places to eat. Pubs, McDonalds, Curry shops, Chip shops, Boots the chemist, Starbucks, and "PRIME" dvd rentals which is also a 1 GBP/hour internet cafe. And if you walk the Other direction down Earls Ct road, it takes you to Kensington high Street, more shops. Up Cromwell is the V&A museum, Brompton Oratory, and the Natural history museum. Up a bit further and to go into Knightsbridge, home of Harrods and other shops I cant afford. lol.

All non smoking, the rooms are very clean, beds are clean and comfortable and the air is regulated to a steady comfortable temperature. Not hot nor cold.

Easyhotel offers internet but it is 2 GBP for a half hour. They pretty much make money on the extras.

The walls Are orange but I just stay there to sleep, shower and go out the next day anyhow so it doesnt bother me.

If you use the electrical outlets, remember to flip the ON switch on the outlet.

And last but not least, you pay 5 GBP for 24 hours of tv, but as long as you dont turn it off, it will stay on one channel after the 24 hours is up, for the duration of your stay. I put it on BBC1 or ITV1. I feel like a commercial now. :)

I posted my impressions of easyHotel elsewhere last fall. I think large or tall people might find the bathrooms too cramped. The rooms with windows are much better (for me) than the windowless ones. "No window" probably means you're in the basement (the crypt). There is an internet cafe near the Paddington easyHotel; and it's cheap. I would have appreciated somewhere to put my bag other than on the floor. There were a couple of hooks; someone suggested bringing a couple of hangers from home. A hanging toiletry case would be handy; otherwise, there isn't room for anything in the bathroom. I read that easyHotel was looking at ways to improve their rooms, so maybe they will put in some place for luggage.

Yes youre right Swan. I did bring hangers for my second stay there. I also brought a fold up hanging shower caddy made of mesh for the shower. I was prepared the second time. You would think they could at least put a couple shelves up and maybe a small cabinet on the wall with a couple shelves for clothing. But all in all, I paid 25 GBP per night on average, so it was well worth it. My only mistake was the second time, my husband was with me in it for 3 days in London before he went to visit his family in Manchester. Never again will I share a room that small with someone! It was awful!!! We are spoiled at home, each having our own bathroom. Its cheap enough for him to get his own easyhotel room next time.... so I do NOT recommend sharing it with someone. At least not the small windowless one.

I stayed in a "single" room at easyHotel, but wondered if they used the same room for a "double." Any bed smashed up against the wall puts one of two people into the awkward situation of having to climb over the end of the bed or over the partner to get up. I used the end of my RS carry-on bag for a shelf and kept most of my stuff in the bag. The bed also was used for storage.

Miss B, I was considreing Easyhotel but opted to do hotwire.com instead. You can get great deals on hotwire, and you'll get more than a broomcloset too.

My last trip I got the Wardorf for $110 american dollars per night, which is a wee bit more than Easyhotel's 49-59 pounds per night.

From what I gather, the Easy rooms have no windows, and they're about the size of budget cruise ship rooms.

There are windows in many of the easyHotel rooms. I think they "go fast" as most people probably want a window. On their website (last year) there was a choice of window/no window. Maybe a rate difference, I would guess.

I always booked easyhotel rooms ahead of time and have never paid more than 25 GBP per night (About $40). This includes VAT. The room is like 22 GBP then the VAT brings it to 25. I have yet to find a hotel with reviews comparable to the cleanliness of Easyhotel. Sure there are $50 hotel rooms but they have the most horrible reviews, as do some that area up to $100 a night even. Just cant beat $40 for a bed and ensuite shower in a clean room!!!

I actually had the option of a small room with window for the same price as the no window room, but opted for the no window as I do not like the sunlight coming through anyhow.
