Hotels in Copenhagen

My husband and I will be in Copenhagen at the end of September. Does anyone have recommendations for a hotel? We stayed at the the Alexandria, but that was back in 1970. According to Trip Advisor a lot of people recommend the Airport Hilton (2) or the Crowne Plaza (6). They are very convenient. The Hilton is literally in the airport. At first glance though, it is expensive. Does anybody know of a hotel more near the center of Copehenagen that they can recommend? Thank you. Elaine Donelaine@cox.net

Hi Elaine, We were in Copenhagen last June and stayed at The Admiral Hotel. It is a converted grain warehouse right on the harbor. The room was lovely. It is a little pricey, but alovely hotel with a great view.

Thank you very much for your information and suggestions. I know Copenhagen is expensive, so that is a given. I'm sure it is more convenient to stay near the center of town than out by the airport. Did you take a taxi to/from the airport then? Thank you. Elaine

Hi Elaine, On our arrival we were dropped off by family that we had been visiting. On our way out we walked to the closest metro and took that to the airport. It was doable but not enjoyable since it was rainy and we each had 1 21 inch bag and a personal bag. Upon reflection would have taken the taxi to the airport.
Hope you have a great trip.

Hello. Thank you for your suggestion. Yes we have learned it is better to use an airport shuttle if available or just go with a taxi. Have a great week. Elaine

Elaine, We were in Copenhagen for 3 nights before a Baltic Cruise in Sept. 2009. Stayed at the Hotel Nebo which was very reasonable and was close to the train station. You could walk to most sights from there. It was in the Rick Steves' Scandinavia book.

We stayed in the Phoenix Hotel and the Hotel Opera in July and August 2010. Both are a short walk to Kongens Nytorv (the square at one end of the Stroget) and Nyhaven. Hotel Opera is very convenient to the metro, which is literally fifteen minutes to the airport (extremely convenient). Phoenix is more convenient to Amalienborg Palace. The Phoenix is recently renovated and has one of the best breakfasts anywhere. The Opera shows it's age more but is functional. We had originally booked the Copenhagen Strand Hotel but we arrived to a full house so they sent us to the Phoenix (all sister hotels). We booked small double rooms, which are adequate for us (Opera upgraded us to a larger standard double) Our price for each was $125 per room per night, including breakfast - we considered that a reasonable price for Copenhagen. Summer is supposed to be cheaper than other seasons because there aren't any conventions booking up the rooms.
