I will be visiting London for the first time in early June and would like some suggestions about great places to stay in the city that wouldn't "break the bank"!
We were in London in March, 2004 and we stayed at the Blades Hotel (www.blades-hotel.co.uk). To find info you can google Blades Hotel, London. He discounted the price because I mentioned the Rick Steves website. It is a a very short walk from the Pimlico Underground Station. It certainly is not fancy but we liked the location and the staff was helpful.
Premier Travel Inn at London County Hall will put you smack dab in the middle of everything...London Eye is 20 steps out the door. The River Thames, Big Ben, Parliament is just across the bridge as is the Westminster Tube Station which will get you everywhere quickly. Best of all it's affordable, clean and safe. It's housed in the same building as the 5-star Marriott London County Hall.
Have you looked on this part of the website? Start at the "grafittiwall" then to "sleeping" then to "room finding tricks". London is mentioned quite a few times.

Look at the hotels own websites for specials. A couple of years ago we found someone willing to give a dollars for pounds(a great deal at the current exchange rates).
If you read this article below, (a bit long) it goes through all the various hotel districts of London, what they're like with typical pricing in each category of hotel with some of the better buys. Plus which districts are most convenient for each of London's 4 airports

The President Hotel in Russell Square. Nice and plain, clean and resonable. Usually includes full breakfast. Check website for British Airways and go from there. OR check President Hotel site. You can't beat the location.
Thank you! I'm on it!
