Is it just me or are the prices of accommodation sky high in Dublin. Wanted to spend three nights in late March this year and lowest rate I have been quoted is 150.00 Euros per night.
Even Rick's recommended Harding Hotel is 200.00 Euros per night for two. - Wow - anybody have any suggestions?
Joy,
This place is really nice and has doubles starting at 79 EUR. Great neighborhood, easy access to City Centre.
It was featured in (goofy) Samantha Brown Dublin episode. It was an old Masonic school.
Joy - We stayed at the Best Western Premier Academy Plaza last April. They had a deal that if you stayed 2 nights the 3rd was free. I booked it through hotels.com.
I just checked and using the dates 3/25 - 3/28 it shows a price of $98 (USD) per night. It was well located and was an easy walk to Temple Bar, etc. The Airlink bus dropped us off right outside the entrance and the hop on/hop off bus stop is directly across the street. Breakfast was extra - and expensive - so we did not eat there.
Take a look at www.betterbidding.com, particularly the getting started threads. Then head to the Other countries Priceline thread.
We just booked 3 nights at The Shelbourne Dublin (5* hotel) along side of St Stephens Green park for $140/night (+taxes/fees = $164/night ~ 120 euro) , yes $, not euro, using the tips for 'Name Your Own Price' on priceline.
lowest rate the hotel lists for our same dates is 151 euro prepaid/non-changeable/non-refundable, same terms as priceline is. (that rate is non-weekend only as well)
From looking at the historic info, I was 90% certain we could get that hotel, or the Conrad for under $150/night.
additionally, that $140/night includes St Patrick's Day!
The members of betterbidding.com are very helpful and can give you specific instructions on getting a good deal and giving your a list of hotels that you would likely 'win.'

Dont be put off by the word "hostel"--these sites let you look at B&B's, guesthouses, and budget hotels as well.
(Also, I booked a single at Harding hotel for 3 nights in Dublin, March 13-16, through the hotel's website and got a rate of 182 Euro for 3 nights. Sometimes the hotel's website will have deals that a booking page wont (like offering a 15% discount if you stay 3 nights, etc...)
We stayed at the Hotel Isaacs in Dublin, right behind the Customs House and adjacent to the new Dublin tram route. Very happy with the accommodation. Currently they have some internet deals 58 euros for double/twin and 78 euros for deluxe twin/double. Web site: www.isaacs.ie
I stayed at the Harding 2x once in Dec 2009 and again in April 2010. I will recommend this hotel to anyone, the staff is curteous and helpful. I traveled as a lone female so the staff took extra care of me, providing directions and safety tips. I appreciated it. I liked my stay so much I came back a second time. The hotel is convientantly located in Christchurch in the heart of City Centre, you can walk anywhere from it. They key to this hotel is the midweek rate, sometimes you can get a room for 40 euros a night there. It is also a clean hotel, which to a fussy American is key. The best part of all is Darkey Kelly's pub on the ground floor, a friendly atmosphere with live music on weekends and one of the cheapest pints in Dublin.
Also I forgot to add the best way to get a good rate at the Harding is to book online with the hotel directly that way you can see what the "going" rate is. I also went in December and April, off season. If you can stand cooler weather, it is beautiful none the less. The Christmas lights in Dec, and the beautiful blossoms of early spring made the whole thing worth while.
We just stayed at the Albany House. It was 139.00 Euro a night. We asked for a quiet room in the back. It was very nice and spacious. It was just a short walk to St Stephens green and Grafften st and easy to get to anywhere we wanted to go. And plenty of Taxi's right there. My niece who is married to a man from Dublin recommended it for price quality and location. It is also in the RS Ireland 2010 book. I think if you call them directly you will also get more discount. I just booked on line.
