Hotels and Pubs Near Victoria and Marble Arch Stations

My husband and I are planning on a four-night stay in London next May, and would like some recommendations for hotels and pubs near Victoria Station and/or Marble Arch Station. We have looked at The Rubens near Victoria and The Sumner near the Marble Arch. Comments regarding either of these will be appreciated.

We love to stay in the Victoria area. We use the Victora Thistle (Grosovenor). It is right inside the station! Great to catch train, the Tube and for shopping. There are 2 grocery stores, Boots the Chemist, and lots of other stores, plus a food court for quick meals if we don't feel like "going out". There is a pub across the street called "The Shakespere" - it has excellent fish and chips and good British pies (steak and ale pie, sheppard's pie, etc.).

I've never stayed in the hotel Toni recommends but it has an excellent (if not cheap) restaurant on the ground floor. Chez Gerrard, which is famous for its steaks. They also have a bar specialising in whisky, if you like that kind of thing (which I do!)

A nice pub in the area is the Plumbers Arms in Lower Belgrave Street. I've never tried the food but the beer is good and reasonably priced, as you'd expect as a lot of its clientele are journalists. If it's full downstairs it is worth checking the small upstairs room. On a historic note a blood stained Lady Lucan, who lived opposite, walked in here in 1974 to announce her husband had killed there nanny and attempted to kill her. He ran from the house and has never been seen again....

The Prince of Wales in Wilton Street is a good traditional boozer, and right next door is a really excellent middle eastern restaurant, Kazan. It gets very busy so booking is advised.

Just got back from London and stayed at the Luna & Simone. Loved the location, less than 10 mins to Victoria Rail and Coach stations and the Victoria and Pimlico tube stops are convenient. I even walked to Westminster Abbey from there. Didn't go to any pubs, although I passed several. There are two nice Indian restaurants in teh neighborhood as well.

Gretchen,

You might also consider the Ebury Wine Bar on (of course) Ebury Street. It's not a Pub but has a similar atmosphere, serving both drinks and food.

If your budget will allow a really fine Italian meal, you might consider Santini's which is also on Ebury Street. It was reportedly Sinatra's favourite restaurant in London.

Happy travels!

I'm with Marcie on the Luna & Simone and its neighbourhood. No shortage of pubs/restaurants close-by (Seafresh/O' Solo Mio for the latter), 24/7 bus right in front of hotel, and the family who run this wonderful hotel provide the best service I've ever seen in over 20 years of business/holiday visits to London.

Walking distance to many sites, easy to Victoria Station (or Pimlico) for the tube and everything you need for snacks, meals, drinks, pharmacy, laundry, within 5 minute walk.

The Luna & Simone is spotlessly clean, the staff are wonderful, the twin-brothers (Peter and Bernard) who serve breakfast (and own/run the place) will have you set up for the day with their standard but good choice morning meal, and make sure your stay is enjoyable.

Just the two of you, try for rooms 7 or 8; a small balcony with both rooms overlooking Belgrave Road and only 1 flight of stairs.

I've done the 3/4 stars on business and expense accounts, did the Lime Tree on Ebury Street two years ago on my retirement dime, a few 2 stars when still working (probably 15 different hotels in central London over the years) and I consider myself fortunate to have found the L&S last year. I won't now stay elsewhere when in London; not fancy, not huge rooms, but you'll feel right at home.

Was back in April for the 3rd time in 18 months and even with a bit of constructioin going on with the outside facade, there was no inconvenience/dust/dirt that affected my stay.

Everything you see on Trip Advisor is bang-on; except for a few gripers who would probably not be pleased with any hotel in London.

2 years ago I stayed at the Thistle Marble Arch and loved it. I would ask for the rooms facing the courtyard, as the street view rooms are noisy.

Gretchen,

I always stay at the Morgan House on Ebury St, about 2 blocks from Victoria. They have rooms with BRs in hall and some with private BRs. Great location, staff friendly, GREAT English breakfast. 52 pounds for single w/o bath, not sure what dbl is.
