We are staying here in July. Some Tripadvisor complaints re: noise/hot rooms. For those who have stayed there, what is you opinion? Thx, Steve
We stayed in the Ridgemount one year in the month of May, so have no complaints about hot rooms. As for noise, there was none, but maybe the hotel just had a lot of quiet guests that month. If you will be there in July, and if it is hot, then yes, your room may be hot. It is an inexpensive (for London) hotel so you are getting what you pay for, i.e., no air conditioning.
Steve, I've stayed at the Jesmond Hotel several times. I believe it is right next door to Ridgemount on Gower Street and a couple of blocks down from the British Museum. When I stayed there last July, it was hot by London standards. The temperature got up to 86 degrees several times. Like most budget hotels there was no air conditioning, so I had to open the window at night to sleep. That's when the noise became a problem! The B&B is across the street from UCL, University College of London, which means lots of binge drinking, loud college kids and noisy motorcycles. Also there is a major hospital at the top of Gower Street. I was scared awake more than once by piercing ambulance sirens. However, the price is hard to beat. The location is excellent - very close to four good tube stations and two train stations. I guess you have to balance the relatively inexpensive room against the annoyance factor. If it helps, things did seem to quiet down after midnight.
Had the college kids keep us awake last year in Salzburg..so it won't be the first time.. We'll deal with it..Thx, Steve
When I stay at the Ridgemount I get a single room, and they're at the top looking out over the garden at the back, so I've never had a problem with noise. I imagine IF it got hot in London the rooms would be hot - in that case ask for a fan, or go out and buy a cheap one.
We stayed there about a year and a half ago, but it was cool weather so we had no problems with it being too hot. The windows were closed so no problems with noise. I agree that you would encounter these issues with any comparable hotel or B&B. I remember the Ridgemount as being pleasant enough and the staff was helpful and friendly. For us, the hotel was neither problematic nor especially noteworthy. It was what we expected for the budget we had.
